Inauguration of the Anduze Christmas Market : Make sure you don’t miss it !

Saturday 18th December in Anduze : Clay Fusion – a monumental construction and RAKU firing

The RAKU technique is a Japanese procedure for firing pottery. The piece of pottery is fired quickly at 1000°c and removed from the kiln whilst still red hot, covered in sawdust to ‘smoke’, then sprinkled with water. The thermal and chemical shocks it receives can be risky but result in a characteristic RAKU finish.

Over several weeks previously, the potter Franck BRUNET will make a ceramic sculpture in his workshop. Then the firing will take place on the Plan de Brie in the heart of Anduze and will take all day.
The removal from the kiln and the smoking, magical and pivotal moments, can be watched by the general public from 17h30.

This spectacular performance, combining creativity, magic and technical complexity will be quite an attraction. The Association Planète Terre wants to stimulate the public’s curiosity and inform them about the work of ceramists – there will be plenty of ceramists at this event, ready to share their passion and knowledge with you.
